Venerable Sergius Radonezhsky, “the abbot of all the Russian lands,” as he was called, is the founder of the Trinity-Sergiev Lavra, for centuries and to this day the largest Russian shrine, which also houses the Moscow Theological Academy. His holy relics are located in the Church of the Holy Trinity, which was built on the site of an old wooden church built by Sergius, by his disciple, Venerable Nikon of Radonezh. His disciples founded more than 40 monasteries throughout Russia. To this day, rivers of believers flock every day to visit Sergiev’s Lavra and pay homage to the relics of the great Russian miracle worker.
